Week 21 - Choosing with Jesus in mind
Welcome in our Stanislas chapel.
I allow myself to become still in order to give myself the chance to let God come close. He is looking at me with love. He is waiting for me. He welcomes me here tonight.
Theme:
To choose with Jesus in mind implies that I ask myself what is essential for my life as a Christian.
Which choices do I make for my life as a consequence of my decision to follow Jesus?
What I might desire:
That I can live my life as I see Jesus lived His life.
That I can find the humanly possible measure of what is being asked of me.
How does what is being asked of me connect me with Him?
Music: The Deer’s Cry. The Sixteen
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in me, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me,
Christ with me.

Matthew 16, 13-19
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare′a Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli′jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
“But who do you say that I am?” If Jesus put that question to me, what would I say to Him? Who is Jesus for me?
I sit beside Jesus and try to answer these questions. I talk with Him and listen to what He has to say to me.
*
Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
“You are the son of the LIVING God.” The living God: is this something I recognize in my daily life? My ordinary, everyday life?
*
And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Jesus sees Peter as a rock, someone upon whom you can build. And He sees Peter as a rock despite all the weaknesses which Peter also has.
*
Jesus also says this to me. I am also called to be a support, a foundation for the people around me, a pillar of strength. What does that make me think of? What questions does this raise for me?
