Week 18 - Jesus proclaims His message
Theme: I sense the authority with which Jesus speaks,
and how He so clearly shows us His way.
What I may desire: That I can listen to Jesus. That I am able to experience that He touches my heart and supports me in all my inabilities.
I place myself before God who is looking at me with love.
Music: Jésus le Christ, lumière intérieure Taizé
Jésus le Christ, lumière intérieure,
ne laisse pas mes ténèbres me parler.
Jésus le Christ, lumière intérieure,
donne-moi d'accueillir ton amour.
Lord, Jesus Christ, Your light shines within us.
Let not my doubts and my darkness speak to me.
Lord, Jesus Christ, Your light shines within us.
Let my heart always welcome Your love.
John 8, 12 Jesus the Light of the World
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jesus spoke these words after a very difficult encounter with scribes. They had brought a woman to Jesus who had been caught committing adultery. Jesus ensured that the woman was given a new chance. He did not condemn her but he did ask her not to sin any more. A light for the woman. A light that gave life. I consider how Jesus dealt with people: how He treated people in such a way that He brought light into their lives. I consider how He treats me. Do I allow His Light to shine through? Light which gives life.
Matthew 5, 14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Jesus doesn’t just say: “I am the light of the world”. He also says: “You are the light of the world”. He points out to us the way we should take. Be a light for each other. Make life more beautiful, lighter, more loving for each other. I consider moments in my life when someone was a light for me.
I consider moments in my life when I was a light for someone else. What did that mean to that person? What effect did that have on me?
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
My light must shine before people. Not only because of my own wellbeing and that of the people I come into contact with, but also to give glory to God. Just as Jesus did by becoming a light for the world. Do I dare to let my light shine? To shine for God and for the people around me?
Music: Jésus le Christ.
