Week 17 - Jesus shows us the way to take

Welcome! It is good to be together again in our beautiful chapel.

God is expecting to meet you and me and He is happy to see me. In silent prayer I take a minute to let God come close to me.

Theme:

By listening intensively, I let Jesus’ words enter my heart.

What I might wish to ask:

That I let Jesus speak to me, as if I were in His presence

that I may experience that He is instructing me as someone in authority;

that He is able to touch my heart.

Music: Jesus bleibet meine Freude-J.S.Bach. CD After Silence – Voces8.

Jesus bleibet meine Freude

Meines Herzens Trost und Saft

Jesus wehret allem Leide

Er ist meines Lebens Kraft.

Meiner Auge Lust und Sonne

Meiner Seele Schatz und Wonne

Darum lass ich Jesum nicht

Aus dem Herzen und Gesicht.

 Jesus shall remain my joy,

my heart's comfort and sap,

Jesus shall fend off all sorrow,

He is the strength of my life,

the delight and sun of my eyes,

the treasure and wonder of my soul;

therefore, I will not let Jesus go

out of my heart and sight.

Mark 10, 46 – 52

And they came to Jericho; and as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimae′us, a blind beggar, the son of Timae′us, was sitting by the roadside. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Bartimae’us is apparently able to attract the attention of Jesus. I take a couple of  minutes to see what is happening around Jesus and Bartimae’us. Can I place myself somewhere among the people in this story?

*

“Have mercy on me…” Bartimae’us is longing to talk to Jesus. From what blindness that imprisons me in my own world and my own worries do I want to healed?

*

And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”

What is happening in Jesus’ heart? What is it in this blind man that touches Jesus?

*

And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; rise, he is calling you.” And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Master, let me receive my sight.”

The people said: ‘Jesus is calling you’ and Bartimae’us throws off his mantle. Which ‘mantles’ am I wearing which prevent me from going to Jesus?

*

Jesus asks Bartimae’us: ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus is also asking me the same question. Do I have the courage to throw off my mantle and truly listen to what He has to say to me?

*

And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

Bartimae’s had faith in Jesus. Do I have faith to do what Jesus is asking me to do?
