Week 3 - God’s presence in Creation

Theme:

Everything was set in motion by God’s creative power of love. You and me are part of this movement which is still in progress.

What I might wish to ask for:

That I am able to discover God’s presence in creation.

That I can look at creation as something which is still taking place.

That I may have a place in this whole creation event.

Music:  Look at the World John Rutter

Look at the world
Everything all around us
Look at the world
And marvel every day
Look at the world
So many joys and wonders
So many miracles
Along our way

Praise to the O Lord for all creation
Give us thankful hearts that we may see
All the gifts we share and every blessing
All things come of thee

Look at the earth
Bringing forth fruit and flowers
Look at the sky
The sunshine and the rain
Look at the hills
Look at the trees and mountains
Valley and flowing river
Field and plain

Praise to the O Lord for all creation
Give us thankful hearts that we may see
All the gifts we share and every blessing
All things come of thee

Think of the spring
Think of the warmth of summer
Bringing the harvest
Before the winter's cold
Everything grows
Everything has a season
Till it is gathered to the fathers fold

Praise to the O Lord for all creation
Give us thankful hearts that we may see
All the gifts we share and every blessing
All things come of thee

Every good gift
All that we need and cherish
Comes from the Lord
In token of his love
We are his hands
Stewards of all his bounty
His is the earth and his the heavens above

Praise to the O Lord for all creation
Give us thankful hearts that we may see
All the gifts we share and every blessing
All things come of thee
All things come of thee

Luke 12, 22-34

He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.

What do I worry about? What really concerns me?

*

For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?[d] If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; ….

Look at the world, everything all around us. So many joys and wonders: so many miracles. What do I see all around me? Joys and wonders over which I have no influence? Can I see God’s presence in these things? Do I want to see God’s presence in these miracles?

*

…. yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Strive for His Kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Where or what is my treasure: an unfailing treasure in heaven?

What am I required to do to strive for His Kingdom in this little part of the world where I find myself?
