Week 13 - The unknown, hidden life

WEEK 13                           The unknown, hidden life                  5-01-2024

Jesus only became the person He was, and is, after a long process of internal growth. His realization of His destiny was able to ripen as a result of His relationship with those around him. Jesus chooses what He stands for. It is no different for me.

I might want to ask that I can see how my own process of internal growth has brought me to where I am today. That my destiny in life may become clearer by deepening my understanding of Jesus and the choices He made. That I have the courage to face uncertainty in life.

Lucas 2, 41-52 The Boy Jesus in the Temple

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, but supposing him to be in the company they went a day’s journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.

I use my imagination to see what is happening here. With whom can I feel empathy?

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.” And he said to them, “How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them.

Jesus is growing up and becoming an adult. He is starting to choose what He stands for. How did that go in my own life?

And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favour before God and man.

Jesus just went back with his parents to Nazareth, back to ordinary everyday life. I try to imagine and feel what that was like for Jesus. What am I destined for in life? Am I sometimes able to experience that Jesus is walking beside me, guiding me to my destiny?
